Transgender Life: Challenging Times, Challenging Issues Masterclass
Monday 6th December 2010
This exciting event, ‘Transgender life – Challenging Times, Challenging Issues’ is a masterclass for those supporting / working with, for, and on behalf of the Trans community in the public & voluntary sectors, and beyond.
The Centre for Local Policy Studies (CLPS at Edgehill University) in partnership with the Trans Resource and Empowerment Centre (TREC) are hosting this unique and interesting conference on current Transgender (Trans) Issues at The Lesbian & Gay Foundation (LGF), 5 Richmond Street, Manchester M1 3HR.
Following the very successful format of the 2009 event hosted by CLPS in partnership with the LGF, which specifically focussed around sexual orientation and the public sector, we have designed a masterclass focussed on gender identity to ensure that the issues that are relevant and current (Inc. The Equality Act 2010) to the Trans community are addressed positively, frankly and given adequate time for open discussion.
The masterclass agenda has been developed by engaging with representatives from the community, highlighting the current issues and needs of Trans people.
We have engaged a number of specialist speakers who bring both their professional and personal experiences to the presentations & workshops.
We are particularly pleased to present Christine Burns MBE as our keynote speaker.
Themes include:
- NHS treatments for Trans people,
- Housing,
- Current legislation,
- Equality & human rights for Trans people,
- Transitioning as a young person,
- Transitioning in the public sector, and
- Dealing with discrimination and hate crime.
All with plenty of time for questions & discussion.
The day will provide you with the opportunity to ask the professionals those questions you've often wanted to ask but not felt able to.
The cost is just £120 per person + VAT
(Special Early Bird Offer – book by 29th Oct and pay only £99 + VAT)
Extra 25% discount on the current price for further attendees from the same organisation, or for those from voluntary sector organisations.
