The Vetting and Barring Scheme, 13 March 2010
Iain, Home Office
The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act requires anyone working or volunteering with children or vulnerable adults to go through criminal record checks. It will be an offence to employ someone who has not been checked before starting work, or to emply someone who has been barred.
An overview will be given of the Vetting and Barring Scheme, which implements the act, and what the scheme means for volunteers, employees and organisations.
This will be followed by a smaller interactive session to discuss specific issues in detail, particulary how the scheme relates to gender identity issues. This will provide input for an Equality Impact Assessment for the scheme.
