"That's my job!" Employment Workshop

Published 23 November 2012

21 December 2012, 7-9pm at the LGF in Manchester.  Getting a gig is never easy. But thinking about it as impossible all the time just makes things worse. The tougher things are in the job market the stronger and more positive and energetic we have to be to make it.

In this workshop we are going to kick our own butts into having a positive attitude and appreciating ourselves and our abilities so that we can shine. It’s never the people that are best for the job that get hired: it’s always the person that does best in the interview. So if it’s time for you to stop feeling terrible and not getting the gigs you want, give yourself a good kick and come share ideas about how to focus on the good things about yourself and up your chances of getting hired.

Sam Rankin has been a facilitator and trainer in various roles for twelve years. She was born and raised in South Africa and has two degrees from Rhodes University. Her work in South Africa focused on using arts education and arts based events in reconstruction and development work. Her last post was Project Manager of The Cape Town Festival’s Children and Youth Festival. She moved to Scotland in 2006. She worked for the Scottish Community Drama Association and Central Scotland Racial Equality Council before joining the Equality Network in 2008 where she co-ordinates the intersectional work of the Equality Network. This entails activities focused on service provision and equality issues around the intersections of race, faith and disability with gender identity and sexual orientation. She also represents the Equality Network in Beyond Borders, a European level partnership project focusing on sharing best practice examples and knowledge on providing services for ethnically and culturally diverse LGBT people in six European countries. In her spare time she does transgender and bisexual specific activism.

The venue is fully accessible and there are changing facilities available. The meeting starts at 7pm and the venue is available from 6.45pm.
