Speaker - Trans Mental Health Study

Published 01 October 2012

On Friday 19th October 2012 from 7-9pm, Dr Louis Bailey will be speaking about the Trans Mental Health Study report, including some of its key findings for our communities, as well as next steps in terms of improving policy and service delivery. After that we will have a practical session to explore ways to enable individuals to cope with difficulties that may arise in life through being trans.

TREC as an organisation that is not just about creating a safe social space for trans people and their allies, but also about creating a more trans positive and friendly environment. Staff and Board members work with external organisations by developing policy, advising staff, delivering training and being part of a wider trans and LGB&T network. This months session will be about one of these most recent and extremely high impact projects - the Trans Mental Health Study. TREC's own Louis Bailey was a co-author of this ground-breaking new research study into trans mental health and wellbeing along with the Scottish Transgender Alliance, TransBareAll, Traverse Research and Sheffield Hallam University. This research represents the largest survey of its kind in Europe, providing vital data on trans people’s mental health needs and experiences. Many of you will have contributed to it.
