Published 07 June 2012
On Friday 15 June, our guest will be Al Head, who will share a DVD showing of her performance 'Are You Talking to Me?' There will be the opportunity to see the performance and then time to ask questions and discuss the issues involved.
The meeting will be taking place from 7pm - 9pm at the usual venue, The Lesbian Gay Foundation, 5 Richmond Road, Manchester, M1 3HF. The venue is fully accessible and is centrally located, just off Canal Street.
'Are You Talking to Me?' is a solo show created and performed by Al Head (equity name Al bat Ross) over the winter of 20102011 with an Arts Council Grant through the Impact Fund for disabled artists. It was first performed at The Barbican Theatre, Plymouth, in March 2011 with the support of 5 live musicians. The show weaves together themes of gender, aging, disability and sexuality, drawing both from the author's personal experience and from her understanding of and exploration of these issues. The performance uses static trapeze, physical theatre, text, music, film and Fooling (a ten minute piece of performance improvised 'on the spot' using the themes of the show).
Al is a 51 year-old lesbian/Queer performance artist with a lifelong visual impairment and an explorative attitude to gender. She is a performer and tutor in static trapeze (www.al-bat-ross.co.uk), physical theatre and Fooling (www.thequeerfool.co.uk) , a Re-evaluation Co-counselling teacher, a parent of grown children and an activist in lgbt, disability, peace and environmental issues. This show is the culmination of many years of experience and thought.
