Workshop: Psychological Wellbeing

Published 03 April 2012
In a move from the usual speaker format, the next TREC social will be offering the opportunity for you to get involved. The workshop, which will be held from 7-9pm on Friday 20 April, will focus on wellbeing.
Jay McNeil will speak briefly about upcoming research being conducted by the Scottish Transgender Alliance, TransBareAll, TREC and Sheffield Hallam University on trans mental health and wellbeing. He will then lead an interesting and interactive workshop on wellbeing, giving people the opportunity to discuss and explore what might affect our psychological wellbeing and how trans people look after their mental health.

Jay created TransBareAll in 2008, along with Lee Gale, following from the experiences of people who took part in the Transtastic Men Calendar. The organisation aims to support trans people’s health and wellbeing, for example by supporting them to explore their identities and achieve greater comfort with their bodies. Jay has spoken in the UK and in other countries, and facilitated training and workshops for a diverse range of audiences, for the NHS, the Police, for the trans community, and at many conferences. His background is in Health Psychology and research, and he is currently working sessionally with the Scottish Transgender Alliance.
